Christene Grubaugh


    Christene Grubaugh (nee Carr) of Steelville, Missouri was born in Cook Station, Missouri on Monday, December 31, 1934 to Alvah Homer and Millie Madeline (Litty) Carr and passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 4 days.


    Christene grew up in Cook Station, Missouri.  She accepted the Lord at a young age and attended Wesco Baptist Church.
    After graduating from Steelville High School she went to St. Louis, Missouri and worked at American Associated Insurance.  
    Christene married Earl D. Grubaugh October 10, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri.
    Christene was a stay at home mom until her youngest was close to 10 years old and then she began working in the Payroll Department of Brown Shoe Company in Steelville, Missouri until she retired due to health issues.
    She took pride in her multiple colors of iris.  She enjoyed reading and working word search puzzles. She taught Sunday School classes and helped with Vacation Bible School at both Wesco Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Millie Carr; parents-in-law, Benjamin and Martha Grubaugh; brother, Thomas Carr; sisters, Lois (Harry) Missey and Judy (Tom) Worley; brothers-in-law, Gene Hogue, Gary Dillingham, Henry (Nadine) Grubaugh, Matthew (Lou) Grubaugh, Wayne (Eloise) Grubaugh and Benjamin Grubaugh; sisters-in-law, Nellie (Chester) Griffith, Anna (Ike) Steck, Dollie (Bob) Woods and Josephine Grubaugh; and son-in-law, Larry Adams.
    She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Earl Grubaugh of Steelville, Missouri; sons, Keith (Leesa) Grubaugh of Lockwood, Missouri and Hal Grubaugh of Steelville, Missouri; daughter, Nancy Adams of Steelville, Missouri; brother, William (Jeanie) Carr of Sullivan, Missouri sisters, Nadene Hogue of Imperial, Missouri, Jane Dillingham of Cuba, Missouri and Sharon Carr of Rolla, Missouri; brothers-in-law, William “Bill” Grubaugh of Steelville, Missouri, Bernard (Linda) Grubaugh of Willard, Missouri and Donald (Jane) Grubaugh of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Peggy Grubaugh of Cuba, Missouri; grandchildren, Nick (Becky) Adams and Ty Adams, all of Steelville, Missouri, Kyle (Jessica) Grubaugh of Ozark, Missouri and Ashlee (Jessica) Menendez of Phoenix, Arizona; great grandchildren, Copeland Grubaugh of Ozark, Missouri, Emerson and Emmalynn Menendez, both of Phoenix, Arizona, Timber Adams and Cole Adams, both of Steelville, Missouri and Baby Grubaugh on the way; special family members, Timmy, Madison, Gunner and Fawn Wilkinson, all of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steeville, Missouri.
    Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Don Wissmann and Rev. Dale Grubaugh officiating.
    Burial at the Carr Cemetery in Cook Station, Missouri.
