Running its overall record to 9-1, the St. James High School volleyball team placed second in the Cuba Tournament Saturday, Sept. 19.
In tourney pool play St. James swept past both Bourbon 25-16, 25-11 and Union 25-19, 25-22 to enter into bracket play unbeaten.
In the semifinals STJ defeated Steelville in two games, 25-13, 25-16, advancing to the championship match against Warrenton.
However, in the finals the Lady Tigers suffered their first setback of the season, falling to Warrenton in three games, 25-10, 21-25, 25-20.
Senior Makayla Case had 22 points in the tournament with six aces, 20 kills, 37 digs and five blocks for the Lady Tigers while senior Mackenna Rodgers had 17 points, four aces, 13 kills, 13 digs, 18 assists and two blocks; senior Hannah Marcee six points, an ace, 12 kills and 16 blocks; senior Shelby Marcee 15 points, two aces, two kills and 10 blocks; senior Emma Carroll 18 points, two aces and four digs; junior Allana Chitwood 23 points, six aces, one kill, five digs and eight blocks, and sophomore Rylee Hancock 16 assists.
On Thursday, Sept. 17 in its Four Rivers Conference opener St. James held off host New Haven in five games 25-15, 18-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10. And Tuesday, Sept. 15 STJ swept Steelville 25-11, 25-22, 25-13.

Case had four points, 13 kills, 19 digs, 21 serve-receives and three blocks; Carroll two points, 14 digs and 18 serve receives; Chitwood five points, three aces, one kill and two blocks; Hancock eight digs and eight assists; H. Marcee nine points, two aces, 13 kills, nine digs, 12 serve-receives and six blocks; S. Marcee nine points, four aces, one kill, 22 serve-receives and six blocks, and Rodgers 15 points, three aces, three kills, 13 digs and 19 assists.
Sept. 15 vs. Steelville
Case finished with six points, one ace, 10 kills, 10 digs and 15 serve-receives; Chitwood had eight points, three aces and five digs; Carroll five points, one ace and six digs; Hancock nine assists; H. Marcee 15 points, four aces, four kills, nine digs, 11 serve-receives and six blocks; S. Marcee four points, four kills and four blocks, and Rodgers five points, one ace, five kills, nine assists and two blocks.
This week St. James was to play at Licking Monday, host St. Clair Tuesday and Pacific Thursday before competing in the Warrenton Tournament Saturday.
