The struggles continued for the St. James High School softball team last week, as the Lady Tigers went 0-4.
Thursday, Sept. 17 STJ dropped a 12-0 Four Rivers Conference game at Owensville. And Saturday, Sept. 19 St. James went 0-3 in the Cuba Tourney. The Lady Tigers lost to host Cuba 16-1, to Salem 17-2 and to Neelyville 15-6 in tourney action.
That dropped STJ to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in FRC play. It was the seventh consecutive setback for the Lady Tigers.
This week the Lady Tigers were scheduled to host Sullivan Tuesday and play at Union Thursday in conference games.
Sept. 17 at Owensville
Owensville 12, STJ 0
The game was scoreless for the first two innings. Owensville then put up four runs in each of the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings. The game was stopped after five frames due to the run rule.
St. James had two hits – a double by Aly Bullock and a single by Karen Goodin.
Alexus Freeman and Acadia Grouns had the pitching duties for STJ.
Cuba 16, STJ 1
Bullock had two hits and the RBI for St. James while Kori Alcorn, Goodin, Mariska Raglin and Jacey Spurgeon each had a hit. Spurgeon scored the lone STJ run.
Freeman was the losing hurler, allowing six earned runs on six hits and 11 walks.
Salem 17, STJ 2
Salem outhit St. James 8-6 and took advantage of 11 walks.
Freeman had two hits and an RBI, Emily Recker a hit and RBI, and Alcorn, Alexis Birkner and Amber Higgins each had a hit while Bullock scored a run.
Freeman and Grouns shared pitching duties.
Neelyville 15, STJ 6
Freeman had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Sierra Deardeuff had a two-run double and scored a run; Bullock had a hit and scored twice; Alcorn had a hit and scored a run; Goodin and Whitney Jenista each had a hit, and Isabella Keehn and Raglin each scored a run.
Deardeuff went the distance in the pitching circle for STJ.
