    Robert Newell Reckerd Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday, August 29, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert Newell Sr. and Mary Lou (Pieper) Reckerd and passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the age of 65 years and 28 days.

    Robert graduated from McCluer High School in Ferguson, Missouri.  He then went to trade school where he obtained his CNA degree.
    He married Teresa Lynn Husky. He later married Penney “Sue” Hayes Walker on September 22, 2012.
    He worked as a union drywaller for many years, then worked as a CNA in Cuba, Missouri and St. James, Missouri until his health began to fail.
    Robert was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.  He liked to be gruff, but his family knew he was a big teddy bear and they weren’t afraid of him.  Robert was the world’s best debater.  He loved to eat, especially sweets.  He liked to fix things around the house.  He loved the outdoors, painting houses, hunting and fishing.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Lou Reckerd; father-in-law, Jimmy Hayes; and son-in-law, Mathew Smith.
    He is survived by his wife, Penney Sue Reckerd of Cuba, Missouri; children, Ben (Stefanie) Reckerd, Rachel Smith and Robin (Gregory) Smotherman, all of Cuba, Missouri, Rebecca (Tim) Van Leer of Stanton, Missouri, Juley (James) Perez of Missouri City, Texas, Jamie (Herschel) Burrow of Jenks, Oklahoma and Crystal (Mike) Kempf of Steelville, Missouri; mother-in-law, Joyce Ann Hayes of Bryan, Texas; siblings, Mark (Mary) Reckerd of Edgar Springs, Missouri and Cathy (Jimmy) Husmann of O’Fallon, Missouri; grandchildren, Brittany Reckerd Ivested and Darian Reckerd, both of Alton, Illinois, Jacob Smith, Ami Smith, Devin Smotherman, Dakotah Reckerd, Kayleigh Reckerd, Dominic Reckerd and Kenyon Reckerd, all of Cuba, Missouri, Anthony Smotherman of Los Angeles, California, Zachary Hinson, Emily Hinson, Gavin Hinson and Haley Van Leer, all of Stanton, Missouri, Kelsey Nason and Logan Nason, both of Missouri City, Texas, James Burrow of Jenks, Oklahoma and Michael Kempf of Steelville, Missouri; four great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, Missouri.
    Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, Missouri with Father Dan Lueckenotte officiating.
    The family chose cremation as his final disposition.
