Steelville Middle School has three staff members and 23 students quarantined after another staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
District Superintendent Mike Whittaker sent a letter out to parents on Monday evening reporting the news. Following the positive test for the staff member, the Crawford County Health Department has quarantined the others because they are considered direct contacts with the positive case.
Steelville Middle School Principal Stephanie Billingsley has reached out to families of the children who are considered direct contacts. Those who have not been contacted by her do not have children who are considered at risk as a result of this positive case.
The school district updates its weekly COVID-19 positive case and quarantine totals on its website every Friday afternoon. The website is www.steelville.k12.mo.us and the numbers can be found on the COVID Updates tab.
As of Friday, October 23, there were a total of five positive cases—four students and one staff member. The total quarantined in the district were 88—four staff members and 84 students.
