John Holton Boldrey


    John Holton Boldrey of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was born on September 11, 1946 in Maroa, Illinois to Grace M. O’Connor and John W. Boldrey and passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 74 years.


    On December 23, 1966 he married Valerie L. Otis in St. James, Missouri.
    John graduated from Rolla High School in 1965 and went on to Lynn Technical School in Lynn, Missouri and studied drafting.
    In 1966 he joined the US Navy, served for four years and sailed the world. His ship, the USS Manley, was involved in the TET OFFENSIVE during 1967-1968 off the coast of Vietnam to which he made several brown water missions.
    After being honorably discharged from the Navy, John started to work for United Telephone Company in 1971 and continued working in the communications field for 31 years. He started as a Lineman climbing poles in Rolla, Missouri and worked his way up to Outside Plant Manager in Maryville, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri and finally back to Rolla, Missouri where he retired in 2001.
    He loved the farm in St. James, Missouri and his cattle. He raised Braunvieh cattle and was part of the Missouri Braunvieh Association.
    During these years, he also headed up a group called “US TOO International” which is an international prostate cancer support group and he helped raise up four grandkids.
    In 1984 Jesus saved John and led him into ministry to Vietnam Veterans through Pointman Ministries. He traveled to various places sharing Jesus and his Vietnam experience with many veterans.
    In 1984, he and his family were privileged to go to Washington D.C. for the dedication of the three soldier statue and visit the wall.
    John’s last 10 years were spent in Lee’s Summit, Missouri watching more grandkids grow up and raising chickens. He loved deer camp every year with “the boys” and taking camping trips in the RV. John was a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by sisters, Delores Shank and Kathy Staley; brothers, Michael “Mickey” O’Connor and Jerry O’Connor; and several step sisters and step brothers.
    He is survived by his wife, Valerie Lou Boldrey; children, Christine Michelle Barrett of St. Robert, Missouri, Lori Diane Truitt and husband Michael of Liberty, Missouri, John Charles Boldrey and wife Rhonda of Kansas City, Missouri and Andrew Scott Boldrey and wife Jenni of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; sister, Debbie Miller and husband Paul of St. James, Missouri; brother, Randy O’Connor and wife Judy of Ashland, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Dustin Barrett, Tiffany Barrett, Jessica Powell husband Tony, Hailey Barrett, Hunter Loving, Colton Boldrey, Preston Boldrey, Cooper Boldrey, Kamryn Boldrey, Kyndal Boldrey and Claire Boldrey; six great grandchildren, Tony Powell Jr., Tavion Michael Lee Barrett, Titus Powell, Tien Powell, Takiera Powell and Nova Diane Simmons; best friend, Oscar his Australian Shepard; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
    Funeral service was at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
    Interment with military honors followed in the Pea Ridge/Roach Cemetery in Doolittle, Missouri.
