Raymond A. Leslie of Steelville, Missouri was born on Tuesday, June 2, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri to Richard Vernon and Anna Celeste (Williams) Leslie and passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Raymond graduated from Cuba High School. After graduating he joined the United States Navy where he served his country honorably for four years during the Cuban Crisis. When he returned home he worked at McDonnell Douglas for a year, then moved to Reno, Nevada where he was a hotel maintenance manager and worked for Harold’s Club.
He enjoyed attending the “Burning Man” event each year in the desert where he rented bicycles to those wishing to participate. Raymond was a survivalist. He loved to read, especially science fiction novels. He enjoyed writing horror stories and watching war movies, specifically World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna Leslie; sister-in-law, Sharon Lee Leslie; and niece, Angela J. Simpson.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Daphne) Mallow of New Bedford, Massachusetts; granddaughter, Aurora Mallow; brothers, David Leslie Sr. of Steelville, Missouri and Lawrence “Vernon” (Carrie) Leslie of Springfield, Missouri; nieces and nephew, Leanne (Larry) Hankins of St. James, Missouri, David Leslie, Jr. and Anna Wadlow, both of Cuba, Missouri and Sharon Leslie of Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2020 with Rev. Don Wissmann officiating and full military honors.
The family chose cremation as his final disposition and will later be buried at the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
