Donald Hayse Wolfe was born July 12, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jacob Hayse and Alta Wolfe and passed away on December 16, 2020 at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Don attended schools in both St. Louis and St. James, Missouri, before enlisting in the Navy. As a naval aviator Don operated radio and radar and served as tail gunner on PBM Martin Mariners and on carrier-based TBM Avengers conducting anti-submarine operations. He also served as shipboard radioman for cruiser and battleship based aircraft
Soon after discharge he met Joan and they married October 24, 1948.
He was a proud veteran of WWII.
Don and Joan built their first home themselves, with the help of some family members.
At a very young age Don was determined to be his own boss and build his own business. He soon launched an auto parts business that developed into a successful auto parts retail and wholesale enterprise.
Don and Joan raised six children, traveled widely and read extensively. They were both avid private pilots, each with their own planes.
Don operated a business rebuilding small planes while managing the Rolla National Airport for about ten years. He also raised cattle on their farm in Vichy where they lived since 1973.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Joan Wolfe; parents, Jacob and Alta Wolfe; son, Jeffrey Michael Wolfe; and youngest sister, Linda Mitchell Jones.
He is survived by his children, Peggy Allmeyer (Ron) Kathleen Bottroff (David), Danny Wolfe (Ester), Rebecca Wolfe Spratlin (John) and Gregory Wolfe (Cindy); grandchildren; great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Vivian Moss, Millie Davidson, Gwen Thomas and Dodie Muschany; other relatives and friends.
Private graveside service was planned due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.
