Stephen Norman Schmidt

    Stephen Norman Schmidt of Sullivan, Missouri was born in Sullivan, Missouri on February 7, 1932 to Stephan and Goldie (Greenlee) Schmidt and passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

    Norman grew up and attended school in the Sullivan area, graduating with the Class of 1951.
    He was drafted into the United States Army on September 9, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. After his induction, he served in basic training at Camp Gordon.
    In February of 1953 he flew to Seattle, Washington, where he celebrated his 21st birthday and then boarded ship, which broke down and had to be towed to Honolulu, where he spent the night. He boarded another ship called the “General Walker” to Japan. Then spent service time in Korea for 13 months.
    Norman married his first wife, Mildred, on December 27, 1952.
    For most of his working career, Norman hauled gravel and worked in excavating. Mildred passed away in 1999.
    Norman married Anita Pennock on August 16, 2001. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Branson and also spending quality time on the farm. Norman was passionate about farming and his cattle and enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at the Bobber Café.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; an infant granddaughter, Sarah; and his parents, Stephan and Goldie Schmidt.
    He is survived by his wife, Anita Schmidt of Bourbon, Missouri; one son, Steve Schmidt and wife Kathleen of Leslie, Missouri; two daughters, Judy Schmidt and Terry Schmidt, both of Sullivan, Missouri; three step children, LaDonna Hartwick and husband Dennis of Bourbon, Missouri, Martin Beckett and wife Tricia of Bourbon, Missouri and Timothy Beckett and wife Tracy of Bourbon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Schmidt and wife Trina of Cedar Hill, Missouri, James Fore and wife Jennifer of Sullivan, Missouri and Dustin Schmidt of Sullivan, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Preston, Jenna, Colton, Adam, Adison, Kasi and Dustin; six step grandchildren, Andrea, Erica, Ashley, Rolla, Karlie and Kameron; four step great grandchildren, Drawe, Luna, Collin and Walker; brother, Neal Schmidt and wife Shirley of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.  
    Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.    
    Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating.
    Interment followed in Old Cave Spring Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri.
