Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital’s Therapy & Wellness is excited to now offer a new treatment program, LSVT BIG, to help patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions.

LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) or other neurological conditions to use their body more normally.  People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have difficulty getting in and out of a car, getting dressed, or performing daily activities. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether “small motor” tasks like buttoning a shirt or “large motor” tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions – more like the movements of everyone around them.
LSVT BIG is customized to each individual's goals and needs, so it can be implemented at any stage of Parkinson Disease. It is never too late to start LSVT BIG, and this program can lead to recognizable improvements in everyday tasks.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, they may benefit from LSVT BIG treatment. At MBHS Therapy & Wellness, we have both an occupational therapist and a physical therapist certified in LSVT BIG.
