A special election will be held on Tuesday, May 11, to break a tie for one aldermanic seat in Bourbon that occurred on April 6.
During Bourbon’s municipal election last month, Clifford Crawford and Mary Heywood were both seeking a two-year term on the city council representing Ward 2 and they each received 21 votes.
While there are several approved methods of breaking a tie, including one of the candidates voluntarily withdrawing or conducting a drawing to determine the victor, both Crawford and Heywood decided they would like a special election.
Simple paper ballots will be used and voting will take place at the Bourbon Community Center, 573 Elm Street. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The election is only open to voters in Ward 2. The deadline to vote absentee is May 10 at 5 p.m. To be counted, all absentee ballots must be postmarked by 7 p.m. on May 11.
