John N. Parkins Jr. of Winfield, Kansas, formerly of High Gate, Missouri, was born July 6, 1933 in Rena, West Virginia to John and Vesta Violet Reynolds Parkins and passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the age of 87 years.
He grew up at High Gate, Missouri. He was drafted into the military and served his country in the United States Army.
After he got out of the service he started to work on car transmissions. He was a master transmission rebuilder and received many awards throughout his career. He worked at Coleman Transmission in St. Peters, Missouri for 45 years and also worked for Precision Transmission in St. Charles, Missouri.
After he retired, he enjoyed helping raise grandchildren, and after his wife, Betty was in poor health, he helped take care of her. He enjoyed fishing and had many fishing trips with Uncle Jimmy and had many fishing tails to pass on to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Ann Parkins on July 3, 2013; brothers, Herman, Fred, Jay Permenter and Lemon Estell Parkins; and sisters, Ivy Russell, Mae Hedrick, Alberta Smith, Ethel Neidert and Catherine During.
He is survived by four sons, Steve Parkins and Joe Parkins of Kansas, Doug Parkins of Illinois and David Parkins of Fergusson, Missouri; two daughters, Denise Ann Shefeild of Winfield, Kansas and Deana Parkins of O’Fallon, Missouri; one sister, Eunice Neidert of St. James, Missouri; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with Gene Scantlin officiating.
Pallbearers were grandchildren.
Burial with full military honors was at the High Gate Cemetery at the family plot.
