The St. James Senior is enjoying a revitalization. The pandemic impeded activities and services offered. With restrictions adjusted, the monthly Birthday Luncheon served over 100 in May. What a lovely phenomenon to again be able to socialize and delight in visiting with friends.
An increased flow of patrons and happenings generates the need for additional volunteers, especially in the kitchen area. What a fun experience to dish up lunch to acquaintances. Seeing those familiar smiling faces and hearing the latest update on family and friends is what volunteers at the St. James Senior Center enjoys the most.
Helping in the kitchen can involve cutting veggies, peeling hardboiled eggs, preparing salad fixings for cold bar… those little things to reduce to workload of the kitchen staff. Come volunteer a couple days a week for 2-3 hours.
St. James Senior Center is located at 110 W. James Blvd. in St. James. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday – Friday and costs $5 for those over 55. You do not have to be a senior citizen to experience our “Homecooked Meals.” Under 55 lunch time cost is only $8. Check our Facebook for daily menu. For more information call 573-265-7072.
May named Volunteer of the Month
Jack May has been a volunteer at the St. James Senior Center since September 2018. He helps in the kitchen as dishwasher and serving food to our customers. He also assists during the Caring Center’s monthly food distribution.
He served in the Airforce and retired from United States Geological Survey after 32 years. He enjoys hard work, most styles of music, traveling, volunteering, and anonymity.
His future plans are to keep on living until he dies. One of his favorite quotes is: “Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a Gift from God. That’s why we call it the Present.” by Bill Keane
The Senior Center and Caring Center appreciate Jack for being a team player and always helping where needed. Stop in to have him serve up some delicious food and be blessed by his great attitude!
