John Matthew Grgurich


    John Matthew Grgurich of St. James, Missouri was born January 1, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph Henry and Kathleen Ellsworth Grgurich and passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at the age of 74 years.


    On June 22, 1968, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Menomonie, Wisconsin John married Sheila Jean Marshall.
    John was a self-employed contractor in the St. Louis, Washington, Missouri areas for many years and also a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1839.
    He taught at the Four Rivers Vo-Tech College for several years.
    He was a proud Marine veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was a life member of VFW Post 2661 in Washington, Missouri and of the Private George Phillips Marine Corps League Detachment in Ballwin, Missouri.
    John loved the outdoors and for many years worked on his cabin south of St. James, Missouri. Many years of hard work, from both Sheila and all the family, went into building the cabin, hueing the logs that were cut from the property and collecting stone for the massive fireplace.
    He was active in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, where he served on the Parrish Council and the Knights of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Kathleen Grgurich; one sister, Theresa Jolene Grgurich; and one grandson, Ian Anthony Grgurich.
    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila; sons, James Matthew Grgurich (Stacy) of St. Charles, Missouri and Anthony David Grgurich (Theresa) of Washington, Missouri; daughters, Marissa Lea Grgurich of Washington, Missouri and Stacey Marie Grgurich Wilder (Eric) of Wildwood, Missouri; brothers, Michael Grgurich of Washington, Missouri, Stephen Grgurich of Gerald, Missouri, Christopher Grgurich of Lonedell, Missouri and Kirby Grgurich of Troy, Missouri; sisters, Karen Grgurich of Troy, Missouri, Nancy Erxleben of Springfield, Missouri and Kimberly Cavin of St. Louis, Missouri; three grandchildren, Johnathon James Grgurich, JoAnna Alexis Grgurich and Stirling Marshall Grgurich; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
    Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri.
    Pallbearers were James Grgurich, Anthony Grgurich, Eric Wilder, Johnathon Grgurich, Drew Tucker, and Greg Speas.
    Military honors were given at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church following the Mass.
    Private burial of his ashes next to his grandson, Ian, took place at the cabin.
