Dorothy Mathena Shuey of St. James, Missouri was born in Phelps County on March 3, 1925 to Henry and Mary (Barrett) Mathena and passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the age of 96 years.
On September 22, 1942 she married Clifford Shuey.
Dorothy worked for California Manufacturing in St. James, Missouri for 26 years. After she retired Dorothy and Clifford traveled the country, making it to all 50 states. In 1989 they drove to Alaska, coming back through Seattle on the Coastal Ferry, which took four days, and three nights.
Dorothy joined the St. James Christian Church in 1962 and was active in in the church until her health no longer permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Mathena; husband Clifford Shuey in 2003; daughter, Donna Beckering; brothers, Pete and Bill Mathena; sisters, Doris Norris, Lucy Asher, Clara Devoy, Florence Williams and Anna Norris; and great grandchildren, Mason and Geneva.
She is survived by her children, Robert Shuey and wife Paula of Tacoma, Washington and Vickie Pitts and husband David Pitts Sr. of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Brian Shuey, and Tonya Mellinger, Teresa White, Stacey Light, David Pitts JR and Christie Pitts Rice; a host of neices, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral services was held at noon on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri with Pastor Alan Wynn officiating.
Burial was in the St. James Cemetery.
