Clifton Lyle Courtney

    Clifton Lyle Courtney of Meta, Missouri was born on Saturday, November 16, 1940 in Salem, Missouri to Glenn and Clara Swyers Courtney and passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 22 days.

    His early years were spent in rural Crawford County.  He attended Cherryville High School and began his career of butchering meats in Keysville, Missouri at the age of 16.
    His family moved to Lake Forest, Illinois where he was a butcher with Lakeside Foods for several years.  He then moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri and worked for Charley’s Warehouse Foods for over 20 years.
    At that time, the family moved to Meta, Missouri and lived on the farm. Clifton loved to hunt, fish, ride horses and work on the farm.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Clara Courtney; brother, Joe Courtney; nieces, Schontelle Matheny and Jennifer Courtney; and nephew, John Brown.
    He is survived by his son, Jerry Courtney of Meta, Missouri; brother, Robert “Bob” (Bonnie) Courtney of Highland Park, Illinois; sisters Connie (Al) Wallen and Nell (Bob) Brown, all of Meta, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery in Cherryville, Missouri with Bro. Len Young officiating.
