Maureen Sharkey


    Maureen (Long) Sharkey, formerly of Rolla Missouri was born in Bebington, Great Britain and on November 25, 1933 to Margaret and Leonard Long and passed away on August 11, 2021 at the age of 87 years.


    Maureen graduated from The Bebington School for Girls and began working for the Coal Board in Great Britain until she got married.
    She married John J. Sharkey of New York, New York on April 23, 1955 in Bebington, Great Britain. They met while John was on leave from the Army visiting his family in Great Britain.
    They were stationed in France after the wedding where their first child was born. They were then transferred to the United States and made Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri his home base until his military retirement.
    She lived in Rolla, Dixon, Newburg, Missouri and St James Missouri but she would always say that Great Britain was her home.
    She enjoyed working in her rose garden and traveling to other countries and in the US. During the times she couldn’t visit family she would call, write and even see them on Facebook.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Leonard Long; husband, John in 1975; son, Steven John in 2009; and three sisters and their spouses.
    She is survived by her children, Kim (Russ) Behlmann of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Kathy (Alvin) Ray of St. James, Missouri and Denice (Jimmie D.) Harris of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Desiree Osborn of Pineville, Oregon, Ryan (Brooke) Harris of Springhill, Tennessee, Jon Eric (Autumn) Osborn of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, Danielle Sharkey of Largo, Florida, Tonya Harris of Kansas City, Kansas and Henry Behlmann of Maryland Heights, Missouri; great grandchildren, Christian Sharkey, Xavier Viesca, Skye Osborn, Nolan Harris and London Rose Harris; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri.
    Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday September 10, 2021 at the Rolla Chapel at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri.
