The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual event aimed at fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association, is set for next Saturday, October 23. Each year, the event is held in more than 600 communities and is the largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at Lion’s Club Park, located at 1061 South Bishop Avenue in Rolla. The opening ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the walk will commence at 11 a.m.
Participants can join the local event or walk from home in their neighborhood. Safety protocols will be implemented, including physical distancing, contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations, and more. Following CDC guidelines for outdoor events, those attending the walk in person is asked to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or to wear a mask while in crowded locations. Masks will be available onsite.
Those walking in their neighborhoods are encouraged to post their pictures on the 2021 Rolla Walk to End Alzheimer’s Facebook page with the hashtag #Walk2EndAlz and #EndAlz. All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further care, support, and research efforts conducted by the Alzheimer’s Association, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible.
There is no registration fee for the event, however, donations are requested. Dogs will be permitted, but must be on leash. Strollers will also be allowed onsite. Each participant will receive a colored flower representing someone living with Alzheimer’s, someone who has lost someone who suffered from Alzheimer’s someone currently providing care, and those who support the cause.
