Maramec Spring Park and the St. James Parent Teacher Community Organization (PTCO) are teaming up this year to bring a Spooktacular Halloween & Trunk or Treat to the park. The event will be held on October 30 and will provide candy, games, and more for those wanting to trick or treat outdoors this year.
“Trunk or Treat will be our last hurrah of the year,” Regional Manager of The James Foundation Wes Swee said. “They’ll be able to trick or treat through the campground.”
Local businesses and organizations will be spread out and handing out candy from 3 to 7 p.m. The park will offer free admission throughout the event and participants will be able to fill their buckets by visiting campers and booths set up in the campground as they walk around.
“The Sports Club will be giving hotdogs to the kids and there will be games to play. We’re trying to make a hay maze (as well),” Swee said.
The PTCO started Trunk or Treat several years ago and it has appeared at several locations, first held inside the Lucy Wortham James Elementary School, before moving outdoors, then between the high school and elementary school, and now at Maramec Spring Park. The event always draws a large crowd and Swee believes this year will be a special one for those attending.
“The campground is completely booked up to the end of the season. The minute we started to put Trunk or Treat together, there was a lot of support by the campers,” he said.
Participants will need to stop by the museum from 3 to 4 p.m. to get their supplies and then will head down to the campground to trick or treat and play games while they are there.
Anyone who wants to set up a booth or volunteer to help with the event is encouraged to view the Halloween Spooktacular & Trunk or Treat Facebook page, the St. James PTCO Facebook page, or call Maramec Spring Park at 573-265-7124 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
There is still time to register for a booth spot for local businesses and organizations and the hope is to have lots of candy to hand out, providing a safe and fun place for local families to trick or treat.
