Would you listen to an angel’s message?

Can you imagine receiving a message from an angel? This is what happened in the land of Israel around two thousand years ago. First Mary, then Joseph and finally the shepherds received messages from an angel.

The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. “Then the angel told her: ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. No listen: you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever and His kingdom will have no end.” Mary asked the angel, “How can this be since I have not been intimate with a man?” the angel replied to her: the Holy Spirit will come upon you  and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God,” Luke 1:30-35
Joseph also heard from an angel. “The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly decided to divorce her secretly. But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. She shall give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins,” Matthew 1:18-21
The night Jesus was born, shepherds were out in a field watching their flocks when an angel of the Lord stood before them. The glory of the Lord shown around them and they were terrified. The angel told them not to be afraid and gave them the message that a Savior who is the Messiah, the Lord, was born in Bethlehem. Then there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest an on earth peace among those to whom He is pleased,” Luke 2:14
When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds went to Bethlehem to see what had happened. They found Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus who was lying in the manger. The promised Messiah had come to live among His creation. “Joy to the World, the Lord has come.”
