Donna Jean (Clemons) Southern was born in Canalou, Missouri on April 21, 1950 and passed away on August 29, 2021 at the age of 71 years.
Donna ran a daycare in her home for many years while she lived in Tennessee with her second husband and then again when she moved to St. James, Missouri. It was called Nana’s Childcare. Over the years she was known to so many kids as Nana.
Donna went out of her way to help someone in need. Donna and her mother, Mary, lived together for several decades and took care of one another. They were known around their senior housing complex as the mother-daughter duo.
Donna loved to read, watch the Sci-Fi channel, and she and her mother and sister attended Red Hat events. They belonged to the Red Hat Mad Hatters.
Donna sat on her back deck every morning when the weather allowed and drank her “cuppuccino” as she called it.
Donna loved going for 4-wheeler rides but had to give that up many years ago. Donna had many health problems throughout her life but that never stopped her from enjoying her life.
She is survived by her son, Ken Dixon and wife Lori of Vienna, Missouri; grandsons, Dakota Dixon and wife Brooke of Vienna, Missouri and Tanner Dixon of Vienna, Missouri; mother, Mary Clemons of their home in St. James, Missouri; sister, Suzanne Clemons of Ellsinore, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Donna was cremated and her wishes were to have no funeral service but to have a Celebration of Life. She left instructions to her son on what she wanted done with her ashes...and he will honor his mom’s request. A Celebration of Life is also being planned and a date will be announced at a later time.
Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.
