Electric vehicle discussion planned in Rolla

What’s all the buzz about EVs i.e., Electric Vehicles? You can get more information from an expert who will be speaking in Rolla on May 15.

Electric vehicles play a huge part in the transition to a carbon free energy system. The transportation sector alone accounts for almost 30 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions. Getting to clean energy is the big challenge of our time as greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels have accumulated in our atmosphere reducing the earth's ability to “cool itself off” by radiating energy into space. EV’s don’t have emissions. They are part of the solution.
As part of its speaker series to educate the community about the challenge to address climate change and shine a light on local actions that impact our planet, the Rolla Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby is bringing Mike Tucker, vice president of Hutcheson Ford in St. James, to talk about electric vehicles.
He will speak at 3:30 on Sunday, May 15 at the Phelps County Courthouse meeting room. Tucker says EV’s are the future, the future is already here, and he wants to be a leader in getting everyone to the future. He will talk about how EVs work, the ins and outs of charging an EV, the cost of an EV to own and operate, and what it’s like to drive one. He’ll also discuss Ford’s vision for the future and give a run-down on the new, just released, all-electric Ford F150 Lightning.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization that works to empower everyday people to work together to bring about effective solutions to address climate change. The group is building support in Congress for a national bipartisan climate policy. While the Rolla chapter was formed just about three years ago, Citizens’ Climate Lobby started the first chapter in 2007 and now has over 500 local chapters across the United States.
