Residents can once again rent the downtown historic train depot after over a year of the building being shut down. Beginning on May 15, anyone interested in renting the facility can do so online or by calling the St. James Parks and Recreation Department.
Rentals will be $75 per day, with a $50 refundable deposit, for the entire building for events such as family reunions, wedding receptions, birthday parties, graduation parties, and more.
“Obviously, there is two sides to it. There is a small kitchenette in there. There are enough tables and chairs to seat 64 people and that is the max capacity we can have in there,” Parks Director Kristy Rich said. The facility also features two bathrooms, one being American Disabilities Act accessible.
The facility was originally closed to the public at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic for public safety, but then had to remain closed as the city repaired water line issues along the nearby block which tied water to the building. While those repairs were being conducted, the depot received some improvements to the structure itself and is now ready to once again be a destination spot.
Rich said there has already been interest in renting the facility and it will be available all year now that it is back in operation. “We’re very excited that we finally have everything done where we can open it back up again,” Rich added. “I’m sure it will be a big help for people.”
Anyone interested in renting the facility can do so online at https://stjparks.recdesk.com or by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 573-699-8026 during regular business hours of 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
