Steelville cooling center available upon request

Steelville Police Chief Mike Sherman announced on Monday the availability of a cooling center to those in need.

People are asked to first notify Crawford County 911 Emergency Services (CenCom) by calling the non-emergency number at 573-775-4911 to let them know how many people will need shelter.
The cooling center will only be available between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and only upon notification, so please call CenCom first so the proper arrangements can be made. The shelter will be located at the Steelville Fire Department but will not be staffed until notification has been made.
Sherman also asked people to check on the elderly during these hot conditions to make sure they are properly hydrated and have adequate cooling for themselves.
“We also want to thank our brothers and sisters at the Steelville Fire Department and CenCom for their assistance, it is always much appreciated,” Sherman said.
