Totes for Tots and Teens/Mr. Rif’s Readers would like to announce the members of their new Board of Directors: Carolyn Emily of Sullivan, Judy Hoevelmann (Board Chair) of Sullivan, and Cathy Boero of Bourbon.
Totes for Tots and Teens, founded in 2016, has been giving duffels and backpacks that including hygiene products to children who are being taken into foster care. The organization works with Children’s Division offices in 17 counties. Without these donated bags, children are given a black plastic trash bag for the meager items they are allowed to take with them into care. This is a very upsetting, helpless time for these children and Totes for Tots and Teens hopes that having something new, that is just theirs, will help them feel a little better about what they are going through.
Mr. Rif’s Readers, founded in 2017, gives each primary grade student in five area schools a grade-appropriate book at the end of each school year. Mr. Rif’s Readers wants students to learn to read for fun early in life. By giving the books at the end of each school year the hope is students will want to read more books over summer break. This past May 928 students received books.
Totes for Tots and Teens/Mr. Rif’s Readers buy duffels, etc. and books through fundraisers they hold, grants, and donations. The also accept donations of very-gently-used bags and books - and will pick them up.
