Missouri stands alone in failing our children

One state declined a simple tweak to its summer meals program. Thousands of kids paid the price.

Our state, Missouri, is that state! Yes, our state legislature failed to join the federal program of our agricultural department to allow families to drive through and pick up meals to take home; this program began during the pandemic and was beneficial to many families. The food was available and as always the volunteers in our communities were prepared to serve.
Children are more alert when they are not hungry so they learn; children are healthier so they see their doctors less; children are happier with a full stomach; then children can sleep.
