Vichy Fire Dept. holding annual tractor cruise

                 The Vichy Fire Dept. will host the Ninth Annual Leroy Tipton Memorial Tractor Cruise on Sept. 11, 2022, at the Vichy Community Park. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with a mandatory safety meeting at 9 a.m. The ride will start at 9:30

                  Cost of the ride is $20 and includes lunch at the Vichy Firehouse and memorial button, honoring the memory of Juanita Butler, fire department board member and food committee chair, who passed away in March. The button is sponsored by 63 Auto and Truck Parts LLC. All proceeds benefit the Vichy Volunteer Fire Department.
                  Here is the 19-mile route for this year: The ride, starting at the Vichy Community Park, will leave the park via MCR 539, turning right onto Highway 63 and traveling to Highway 68. Make a left onto Highway 68. Travel to MCR 452 and make a left onto MCR 452. Turn onto MCR 453. Drivers will cross Highway 28 onto MCR322 and drive to Highway Z. They will make a right onto Highway Z and travel to MCR 320. Make a right onto MCR 320 and then make a left at MCR 321. Driver will stop for a break at the Robert and Juanita Butler farm on MCR 321. They will depart the Butler Farm via MCR 321, make a left onto Highway 28 and then a right onto MCR 452, then to MCR 449 and onto Highway 68. They will travel Highway 68 and make a right onto MCR 440. At the crossroads, they will make a right onto MCR 444 and travel to Highway 63, making a right turn right on Highway 63 and will conclude the ride with dinner at the firehouse.
                  Tractor drivers must be 16 years of age and can only carry passengers if the tractor has a buddy seat or enclosed cab. Wagons are allowed. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the ride. Tractors should have a slow moving vehicle sign and be in good operating condition.                   For those just wanting a good meal, fire department volunteers will be grilling whole hog sausages and serving homemade chicken and dumplings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the firehouse. This will be served with baked beans, homemade slaw, homemade country hash browns along with a large selection of homemade desserts. Cost is $12 for adults, and $6 for children. This dinner, the last for 2022, is dine-in and carry-out.
                  The fire department is also selling raffle chances on a hand-made lap quilt, made and donated by the Vichy Volunteer Fire Department Jeanette Gregory. The winner of the quilt will be drawn at 3 p.m. on September 11.
