The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team won two out of three games last week to improve their record to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in Gasconade Valley Conference play. The Cardinals earned conference wins over Belle and Viburnum, but lost in St. James.
After earning two more victories last week, the Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team entered the final week of the regular season with a record of 15-7. The Lady Cardinals, who have been seeded second in next week’s district tournament (see related story) earned wins last week over Newburg and Viburnum.
The Steelville High School boys has been seeded first, while the girls earned the second seed in the Class 3 District 4 Basketball Tournament, which will be held next week in St. James. The Lady Cardinals are the defending district champions.
The Steelville junior varsity boys basketball team reached the finals of the Bourbon B Team Tournament Saturday, but came up a bit short in the championship game against Owensville. The Cardinals reached the first-place game after getting wins over Salem and Belle.
For the second straight year, the Steelville Lady Cardinals are the champions of the Newburg Girls Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Lady Cards dominated their competition last week, winning three games by an average of nearly 21 points, and are 13-7 on the season.
