The Steelville Lady Cardinals undoubtedly pulled off the biggest upset at the Carl Junction Shootout on Saturday, knocking off the eighth-ranked Class 5 host team in stunning fashion 64-29. The win moved the Lady Cards to 10-4 overall.
The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team reached the third-place game at last week’s Owensville tournament, but couldn’t pull out a victory in the final round. The previous week, the Cardinals won their opening game at the 16-team Park Hills tournament, but then dropped their next two games.
The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team finished third at the Park Hills Central Christmas Tournament, which was played December 26-31. The Lady Cardinals won two of three games, defeating Arcadia Valley and Fredericktown, but losing to Ste. Genevieve in the semifinals.
The Steelville High School boys basketball teams earned a pair of victories at West County on December 16. The Cardinals were also scheduled to play their Gasconade Valley Conference opener at Cuba on December 18, but that contest was postponed because the Wildcats are in quarantine.
The Steelville High School boys and girls basketball teams are both playing in the 65th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament, which will get underway at Park Hills on Saturday. The final round of the tourney is set for New Year’s Eve.
