Council discusses allowing chickens in the city limits

            Chicken ownership could soon be legal in the city of St. James after an ordinance was introduced Monday night providing rules for owning and raising chickens inside city limits. The ordinance was spearheaded by councilwoman Mag Roberts and Tyler Wagnon, who claim the bill is strict and has been requested by community members.

City approves Smith & Edwards for lift station construction

            Smith & Edwards Construction will be tasked with reconstruction of Lift Station #3 after the St. James City Council accepted their bid on the project Monday night at $580,802. The company was the lowest of four bidders.

CCHS Museum receives old Tax Collector’s desk

            The Crawford County Historical Society (CCHS) museum receives a donation of a vintage desk from the Crawford County Courthouse in Steelville. But it’s no ordinary desk—this morsel of history serves as an interactive exhibit and a functional piece of furniture in its new home.

Heritage Day being held October 16

            The Bourbon Community Foundation will hold the  third Heritage Day for Bourbon on October 16, 2022 at the Bourbon Community Center. The first Heritage Days were held in 2018 and 2019. Everyone enjoyed it so much that the foundation was asked to make it an annual event. Due to the COVID pandemic, it was not held in 2020 or 2021, but returns this year.

MDC partners with Bayer to support pollinator education efforts

Pollinators play a critical role in the production of most fruits and vegetables and a great way to support them is by planting native plants. Bayer is helping the cause by giving away free native-plant seed packets through a new partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).
