Phelps Health teamed up with GRACE (Greater Rolla Area Charitable Enterprise) and Good Samaritan of the Ozarks this fall to provide Thanksgiving meals to more than 200 families in need during the “Basket of Thanksgiving” food drive.
The first official day of winter is Dec. 21 and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) says some wildlife may need a little bit of a helping hand as they try to stay warm through the freezing temperatures. Wildlife across Missouri have varying ways of overcoming the challenges winter presents. Kevin Brunke, a MDC natural history biologist, says there are several ways people can help winter wildlife, as not all of them can simply hibernate.
Department of Public Safety Director Sandy Karsten today announced that Zim Schwartze has been named Chief of Missouri Capitol Police. Schwartze, a 28-year public safety veteran who is currently Director of Springfield-Greene County 911 Emergency Communications, will begin work on Jan. 6.
R. Tim Bradley of Austin, Texas, retired president of Kinder Morgan C02 Co., will speak at two commencement ceremonies at Missouri University of Science and Technology this month. Bradley earned a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from Missouri S&T in 1977.
Steelville Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem Terry Beckham struck back at allegations made against him by a counterpart at the November 18 city council meeting. At the December 1 council meeting, he addressed concerns raised at the previous meeting by Alderwoman Amanda Sherrill that he had made decisions for the city outside of the council chambers and without his counterparts’ knowledge.
Wreaths Across America will once again be held at the Missouri Veteran’s Home (MVH) in St. James on Saturday, December 14. The MVH, along with the Patriot Guard Riders, the Christian Motorcycle Association, Veterans Home employees, Missouri Veterans Commission, U.S. Army members from Fort Leonard Wood, and other volunteers will hold a special ceremony followed the laying wreaths on each headstone in the cemetery.
