Local school districts discuss reopening challenges

Area public school superintendents met last Friday at the Rolla Technical Center to discuss many of the challenges school district leaders are presently facing as they prepare for the 2020-2021 academic school year. Districts from Crawford, Dent, Franklin, Iron, Gasconade, Maries, Miller, Osage, Phelps, and Pulaski counties were in attendance.

Two seeking coroner seat

    The August Primary will see two Republicans seeking to become the new Phelps County Coroner. Sarah Lamb and Ernie Coverdell will face each other in the election, with the winner taking over the office as they will have not challenger in November.

Five seeking District 1 Commissioner seat

    Five candidates, Kevin Whitener, Stanley Frisbee, Joey Auxier, Sarah Oerther and Jim White, will be running in the August 4 Primary to see which Republican candidate will face Democrat Elizabeth A. White in November to fill the seat of retiring District 1 Commissioner Larry Stratman.

Local family takes honors a national horse competition

    The Mitchell family finished strong in the National Reining Horse Association Derby presented by Markel Horse held the week of June 13-21. Amy Mitchell snagged a win in the second slate of Prime Time Rookie, while her son, Colt, won first place in Short Stirrup.

Authorities seeking suspect in stolen-vehicle case

    A suspect who fled from local police following a vehicle theft and caused a lock down at Cuba High School is believed to have left the area, but the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking charges in the case through the county prosecuting attorney.

County continues efforts to maintain, improve roads

    Crawford County road districts have reported the funds expended on work completed to maintain and improve local roads and bridges so far this year.
