Commission approves six CARES Act requests

    The Phelps County Commission on Thursday approved six agencies to receive a portion of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, & Economic Security) Act funding the county received earlier this year. Funding will be used to help with COVID-19 recovery and preparedness purposes to help with the costs associated with the pandemic.

    The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act prevented landlords from taking eviction actions against renters who were unable to pay rent on certain federally backed programs, including the Housing Choice Voucher program, operated by the Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA).

Randazzo wins race for circuit judge

    Five Republican candidates sought the judge’s seat in Division 2 of the 42nd Judicial Circuit, which includes Crawford, Dent, Iron, Reynolds, and Wayne counties, on Tuesday. Mike Randazzo won the seat.

Vestal, Dake, Cummings win county races

    Crawford County voters chose to keep two current county officials in place at the August 4 Primary Election. A new coroner was also elected.
    The majority of local races were determined at this election, since the candidates running for office were in the same party. The Republican ballot for the August Primary included races for Crawford County Commissioner for District 1, Assessor, and Coroner.
