A new report from the financial technology firm SmartAsset ranks Missouri University of Science and Technology as the best value among Missouri universities and tops when it comes to graduates’ average starting salaries.

Governor Mike Parson has signed SB 262 into law, which will increase transportation funding for critical state and local infrastructure projects across the state of Missouri.

Russell House’s Crawford County outreach office to host July 20 open house

The Russell House’s outreach office in Steelville will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20. The public is invited to meet Crawford County Advocate Shelly Swearingin and learn about the Russell House’s programs supporting survivors of domestic or sexual abuse. The Russell House’s Crawford County outreach office is located at 215 Third Street, Suite 4A, in Steelville.

Groundbreaking held for new pickleball courts

    A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of a new proposed covered pickleball and half basketball court in St. James on Friday, July 9. Located at 110 West Washington Street, the facilities are being built by the Underwood Family Foundation, which purchased the property from the city earlier this year.  

Crawford County Fair is this week

    It’s fair week in Crawford County and this year’s event brings a full slate of activities and concerts back to the fairgrounds at Hood Park in Cuba.
    The theme for the 74th annual fair is “Sew It, Grow It, Show It,” and it kicked off on Sunday, July 11, with barn clean-up and queen talent practice in preparation for the week.

City council gives pay raise to select employees

    On July 6, Steelville aldermen voted to increase pay for three out of four city hall workers, in spite of a request from the mayor to table the decision until he could consider it further, and despite the fact the annual budget had just been approved without the increases at the previous meeting.
