Veteran MoDOT employee is named Central District Engineer

    Machelle Watkins, Jefferson City, has been named the district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Central District. The district covers 18 counties and includes the cities of Jefferson City and Columbia, as well as the Lake of the Ozarks area. She replaces David Silvester, who left the position to become the district engineer for MoDOT’s Kansas City District.

It’s harvest time, stay alert!

    Farming plays a vital role in Missouri’s economy, history, and identity. In the coming weeks, farmers across the state will be harvesting their crops. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to share the road. Expect to see an increase in farm machinery traffic--especially on rural highways. Please obey all traffic laws and remain vigilant. Farmers and motorists alike are encouraged to be safe, courteous drivers.

Fire Prevention Week is ideal time to make your home safe for heating season and approaching holidays

JEFFERSON CITY – It may still feel like August, but October is just around the corner, which means it’s time to prepare your household for the heating season and the approaching holidays. Oct. 6-12 is Fire Prevention Week in the U.S., sponsored by the NFPA. This year's theme is "Plan and Practice Your Escape.”

Buckle Up Phone Down reaches 10k milestone

    More than 10,000 individuals have accepted the Buckle Up Phone Down Challenge according to the Missouri Department of Transportation and Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety. The milestone announcement follows quickly on the heels of the successful Missouri Highway Safety and Traffic Blueprint Conference held in Columbia Sept. 9-11.
