Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Rita Dove to speak at Missouri S&T

Rita Dove, whose many accomplishments include the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and a stint as United States Poet Laureate, will appear at Missouri University of Science and Technology as the first guest of the S&T Distinguished Literary Speakers Series. Her reading begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall on the Missouri S&T campus, located at 400 W. 10th St. in Rolla. The event, which includes a reception with light refreshments and book signing immediately following Dove’s reading, is free and open to the public.

Doe Run will offer mine tours during Old Miners’ Day in Viburnum

           On Saturday, Oct. 1, The Doe Run Company and the Viburnum community will celebrate the region’s mining history at the Old Miners’ Day festival. The event returns after being canceled the past two years due to the pandemic. This one-day event will be filled with entertainment for all ages, including free tours of Doe Run’s Buick Mine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Poet Marilyn Kallet reads at Missouri S&T Sept. 20

Dr. Marilyn Kallet, a celebrated poet, the author of 19 books and professor emerita at the University of Tennessee, will read from her work at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, on the first floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus. The event is free and open to the public.
