May police report presented to council

    Steelville Police Chief Mike Sherman presented the city council with his monthly report for May at the aldermen’s June 7 meeting. The police responded to 419 calls for service last month.

Senior living facility finds bacteria in water system

    Steelville Senior Living (SSL) has discovered Legionella bacteria in its water system. The long-term care facility is currently working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS) in creating a plan to provide safe water to residents.

Groundbreaking scheduled for new mountain bike trail

    The Steelville City Council was informed during its meeting on June 7 that the Steelville MTB Collective has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the new mountain bike trail that will be located on city land located behind city hall.

Summer school is combining learning with fun

    The Steelville School District’s summer school program is offering a variety of educational classes at each building, along with a little fun.
    “At the elementary, most classes will be enrichment-based with each week being a different theme,” Superintendent Mike Whittaker said.
    Week 1 is Reading Adventures, Week 2 is Science Explorations, Week 3 is Social Studies, and Week 4 will be STEM activities.
