Candidates interested in seeking a seat in the April 2 general election for city and school boards have until next Tuesday to file. There are seats open on the city council, school board, mayor, municipal Judge, and ambulance district. Filing will remain open until the end of the business day on Tuesday, January 15.

Several St. James Middle School band students were selected to the district band and attended the annual event at the Waynesville High School on Saturday, January 5. Students spent the day working with a guest director before performing in the evening in front of a full house of supporters.
A Friday afternoon water main break in downtown St. James resulted in quick action by the city, as the line break occurred during rush hour traffic near the downtown four-way intersection. Public Works Director Lyle Thomas said the break took several hours to repair, causing traffic to be routed to lanes around the water, which was leaking into the roadway.
Some much needed help for area seniors arrived earlier this fall. Recently, Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association (IECA) presented checks totaling $12,000 to eight senior centers. Senior centers provide programs and services beyond just hot meals for local seniors. These centers work to enhance the levels of health, social interaction and life satisfaction for their patrons.
Lucy Wortham James Elementary has been nominated for a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award for the 2018-2019 school year by the Flippen Group. Four years ago, school administrators began an initiative to transform the campus into an emotionally safe and relationally connected place for students, staff, and parents to come together with a love for learning.
