Council discuss budget amendment to fund SRO

    The St. James City Council is considering a budget amendment to help fund one School Resource Officer (SRO) to assist the St. James School District when it reopens in August. For the past several months, the SRO position has been discussed, having been eliminated in this year’s budget due to projected lower sales tax dollars due to the city’s stay-at-home order, but the council has continued to seek a way to fund the position.

Senior Center expanding always available menu and availability

    The St. James Senior Center is expanding its “always available” menu and time to eat at the facility. Now, meals will be served from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will include a breakfast option for those seeking an earlier meal.

FFA to hold market animal show and sale in August

    The St. James FFA and 4-H clubs will hold a St. James Market Animal Show and Sale on Saturday, August 29 in the place of the annual event normally held during the Grape and Fall Festival (GFF). With the cancellation of the GFF and the city not allowing the arena to be used due to public safety concerns due to COVID-19, the event will now take place offsite at the Rolla Horse Auction barn in St. James, with guidelines in place to protect kids, their families, and buyers.

Class of 1950 reunites

    Graduates from the class of 1950 celebrated the anniversary of their graduation 70 years later. Gathering at classmate Gail Underwood’s home in St. James on July 4, the group shared stories of their time together and the many years that have passed since their graduation.

Summer brings water issues to the city

    Several water main breaks occurred over the past week, with the city attributing the change of temperature as stressing the system with hot days affecting the water system. Public Works Director Lyle Thomas said many of the breaks took place at areas the city has experienced issues with in the past.
