For the second straight year, the Steelville Lady Cardinals are the champions of the Newburg Girls Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Lady Cards dominated their competition last week, winning three games by an average of nearly 21 points, and are 13-7 on the season.
With five games left on their schedule, the Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team is now 14-3 after splitting a pair of games last week. The Cardinals fell to Union at home, but got a conference win in Bourbon.
This past Friday, during basketball homecoming for the Cardinals, Steelville High School took time to recognize the first boys team in school history to win a district basketball championship. The 1993-94 team, under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Tolly, won the first of three consecutive district titles for the Cardinals.
The Steelville High School varsity boys made it 11 wins in a row during the annual homecoming game Friday night as the Cardinals defeated Newburg to move to 13-2 on the season. The Cards will open Gasconade Valley Conference play on Friday.
The Steelville High School varsity girls improved their Gasconade Valley Conference record to 2-1 with a 46-30 victory over Cuba in January 21. The Lady Cardinals are now 10-7 overall.
