In winning their first state tournament game in school history Wednesday night, the Steelville High School Lady Cardinals also put an end to one of the finest runs in Missouri history, knocking off five-time defending champions Strafford Indians. Now, the Lady Cards are just one win away from the Class 3 Final Four.
For the second year in a row, the Steelville High School girls varsity basketball team are the district champions. The Lady Cardinals defeated Licking Friday night in Dixon to claim the Class 3 District 9 title and advance into the state tournament.
For the first time since 2005, the Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team is heading to the state tournament. The Cardinals defeated Dixon in the championship game of the Class 3 District 9 tournament in Dixon on February 25 to claim the school’s fifth district championship and the first for Coach John Tolly.
With a 77-41 victory over Houston Tuesday night, the Steelville High School girls basketball team earned a chance to defend their district title. The top-seeded Lady Cardinals will take on Licking in the championship game at 6 p.m. Friday in Dixon.
The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team wrapped up its fifth straight Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) title last week and then advanced to the finals of the Class 3 District 9 tournament Monday night. The Cardinals, now 19-6, will play Dixon for the title at 6 p.m. Thursday.
