In running their way to their second straight second-place finish at the Missouri Cross Country State Championships recently, the Steelville High School varsity boys also had to navigate a unique season that featured less competitors, fewer meets, and an ever-present threat of their season being disrupted or ended by just one positive COVID-19 test. All that, however, made the season’s accomplishments that much sweeter for Head Coach Matt Hammonds.

For the second straight year, the Steelville High School boys cross country team has finished second in the Class 2 Missouri State Cross Country Championships. The Cardinals also had two runners earn all-state honors.
Despite finishing second in the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) this season, the Steelville High School Lady Cardinals had four players selected to the all-GVC volleyball team by the conference coaches.
The Steelville Middle School girls basketball season came to an unexpected conclusion last week when the squads were forced into quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test. The Lady Cardinals still have four regular season games remaining, but they will not be rescheduled.
