The Steelville High School volleyball teams earned a pair of sweeps at home last week, getting wins over Dixon and Belle. The varsity also took part in the Licking tournament, where they went 1-8 against some tough competition.
The Steelville Middle School girls’ basketball season is underway. The Lady Cardinals are now a combined 5-1 on the season.
The Steelville Middle School cross country teams turned in two great performances last week to close out their season, winning in Cuba on October 2 and at Potosi on Saturday. The SHS boys also came home with first at the Potosi meet.
Steelville High School cross country coach Matt Hammonds took just seven runners to the St. James meet, which both SMS teams won on September 26, hoping his team would be well rested for a big, 35-school meet on Saturday hosted by Hancock High School at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis. It paid off as the boys came home with first place.
The Steelville High School softball teams dropped a pair of games last week, falling to St. Clair and Vienna. As has been the case several times this season, the Lady Cards jumped out to an early lead in one of the games, but couldn’t hold on for the win.
