Coming off back-to-back 20-win seasons and only losing one player to graduation, it would appear all the stars have aligned for another great season for the Steelville High School varsity boys’ basketball team. And things do look good, but they could be better.
The Steelville Lady Cardinals basketball ball team lost a lot of offensive firepower from last year’s squad that won the school’s first-ever district championship, but there is still a lot of experience returning this year on what is a young squad with a bright future.
Complete domination—that’s the only way to describe the Steelville Middle School boys’ basketball A Team at the Cuba Eighth Grade Tournament. The Cardinals easily won all three of their games in the round-robin tourney, outscoring their opponents 150-49 to take first place.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association released the new district basketball assignments last week and there big changes awaiting Steelville’s teams this season at Park Hills moved up a class and St. James moved back into this year’s tourney. The new district also includes four of the six Gasconade Valley Conference schools.
The Steelville Middle School girls basketball Red Team finished their season with a perfect 16-0 record after capturing the championship of the Cuba tournament last week. The eighth graders on the team finished their middle school careers with an overall record of 30-1, having lost just to Salem’s eighth-grade team in last year’s Oak Hill tournament championship game.
