For the third year in a row, the Steelville varsity girls basketball team has captured the championship of the Newburg tournament. The Lady Cardinals brought home the first-place trophy by beating the home team in a thrilling championship game on Saturday afternoon.
After a pair of regular season wins and finally finishing the Owensville tournament (see related story), the Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team is 18-2 overall and 2-0 in Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) play. The Cardinals have just four games left in the regular season, all against GVC opponents.
The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team earned a non-conference win at Potosi on January 29 to move to 13-4 on the season. The Lady Cardinals, who are playing in the Newburg tournament this week, are also 2-0 in Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) play with three games remaining.
The varsity boys basketball team at Steelville High School is sitting on a 13-2 record after earning a pair of non-conference victories last week over Newburg and Salem. The Cardinals will not play their first Gasconade Valley Conference game until Friday, when they host Bourbon at 5:30 p.m. for homecoming.
The Steelville High School girls had one Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) game postponed last week due to the weather, but defeated Cuba Monday night to clinch a likely GVC championship after winning their two toughest conference games on the schedule, against Belle and Cuba. The Lady Cards, however, must still defeat Vienna, Bourbon, and Viburnum to claim the title.
