The Missouri State High School Activities Association released the new district playoff tournament basketball assignments last week. Cuba High School is ranked as a Class 2 school and will be joined in the District 4 tournament bracket by seven other schools, including three neighboring schools from the Gasconade Valley Conference.
Four Cuba Lady Wildcats were selected for All-District awards, two for the First Team and two for the Second Team, and those same four Lady Cats also received 2018 All-Conference Team awards. One of the girls was named the conference’s MVP, and another received a conference award for showing good sportsmanship.
The 2018 football season came to an unceremonious end for the Cuba Wildcats when they took a 90-6 drubbing at the hands of Lift for Life Academy Charter School in the district football playoff quarterfinal. Head Coach Jake Montalbano was less than satisfied with his team’s performance, but in a candid interview with this reporter after the game, he had plenty of good things to say about this season and even more to say about his expectations for next year’s team.
The Cuba Lady Wildcats reached the championship round of the Class 2, District 8 volleyball tournament, where they were defeated in two sets by the Fatima Comets.
Lift for Life Academy left a bitter taste in the mouth of Cuba Wildcat football fans when the Hawks destroyed the Cats 90-6 in Saturday’s district quarterfinal matchup.
