Three CHS athletes have been selected to the 2018-19 Central Missouri Media All-District basketball team for Class 3 schools. Audrey Williams was a first team selection and Molly Mitchell a second team selection for the girls, while Jonathan Bayless was a second team selection for the boys.
Six players from Cuba High School – three girls and three boys – have received all-conference basketball recognition for their outstanding play in conference games. Lady Wildcats Kiyah Bast, Audrey Williams and Molly Mitchell were named by conference coaches to the girls’ All-GVC team, while Wildcats Jonathan Bayless and Simon Siebert were named to the boys’ All-GVC squad. Al Palmer was given Honorable Mention recognition.
The Cuba High School junior varsity Wildcats finished the 2018-19 campaign with an 8-14 record, but the second half of the season was an improvement over the first half, and the team played particularly well in the final month.
Upsetting the Bourbon Warhawks in the first round of the Class 3 District 4 basketball tournament last week, the Wildcat boys did something that no Cuba team has done in six years: win a district game.
The Cuba Lady Wildcats took a first-round exit out of the Class 3 District 4 playoff tournament after being stunned by a Belle buzzer-beater on Monday night. With only seconds left on the clock, the Belle Lady Tigers took the ball the length of the floor and scored with no time remaining, to win 55-54 at St. James. The Lady Cats overcame a 15-point deficit before ultimately losing by one in the February 18 game.
