The Steelville and St. James varsity girls basketball teams both earned victories in the first round of the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic tournament in Sullivan Monday, while Cuba lost its opening game.
The Cuba High School boys basketball teams finally got on the floor for the first time this season on December 4 when they hosted West County. The Wildcats dropped both games, but the varsity overcame a slow start to force overtime before losing by six.
The Cuba Lady Wildcats have been seeded eighth for the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic, which will be played at Sullivan High School next week. Cuba will take on top-seeded Helias to open the tourney at 4 p.m. Monday.
The Cuba junior varsity girls basketball team played in the Hermann tournament last week but lost all three of their games. Two of them, however, were by just two points.
The Cuba High School girls basketball teams played their 2020-21 season-opening games at Grandview on November 30 and earned a sweep of the Eagles. The varsity also played at St. James on Monday and fell to the Tigers.
