Pumpkin Village is Saturday

Saturday is the day for the annual Steelville Halloween celebration at Pumpkin Village. The Steelville Tourism Committee and Steelville Police Department will host the 14th annual Pumpkin Village at the Greenway Trail and City Park on Saturday, October 29, from 6 to 9 p.m.

District looks to improve weight and locker rooms

           The St. James Board of Education has approved a change order to a contract with GRP Wegman to make improvements to the high school weight and locker rooms. GRP has been helping the district make energy-saving improvements, including new LED lights, HVAC systems, roof repairs, and ventilation.

Council considers vacating downtown alley

            During an October 11 meeting of the St. James City Council, discussion was held on whether the city should vacate a downtown alley between 211 and 219 North Jefferson Street. A portion of the alley was vacated several years ago and is utilized by the St. James Caring and Senior Centers.

Aldermen consider unique police hiring move

            Hiring police officers has become such a problem for the city of Cuba that it is considering buying out potential candidates’ contracts with other cities. That was the suggestion made by the chief of police at the October 18 Cuba City Council meeting, but action was delayed until next month.

Police seeking donors, participants to Shop With A Cop

           The Cuba Police Department has announced that it is taking applications for children to participate in this year’s Shop With A Cop Program. The Department is also seeking donations to help fund this year’s Christmas event.

Bourbon council approves county hazard mitigation plan

           The Bourbon city council on October 18 approved a resolution to adopt the Crawford County Multijurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation plan, which allows cities to be prepared before a hazardous situation occurs so actions can be taken in the event of an emergency.
