The St. James High School boys basketball team opened its season with a bang Monday in the first round of the Sullivan First Community National Bank Invitational at Sullivan High School. The top-seeded Tigers doubled the score on eighth-seeded Potosi, coasting to a 70-35 victory.
The St. James High School wrestling team opened its season by dropping a dual meet to School of the Osage November 25 at Osage Beach.
In the boys meet Osage won 48-12, and in the girls meet the host Indians posted a 30-24 victory.
The St. James Middle School boys basketball teams hit the court against Steelville for their first game of the season on November 25. The seventh-grade boys started out slow, but gained the lead and held on for the win 39-28, while the eighth-grade team started strong and lost their lead in the fourth quarter, sending the win home with Steelville 36-33.
It was a game of two halves between a pair of state-ranked teams when the St. James High School girls basketball squad hosted Licking in the season-opener for both on November 26 in St. James.
Five Cuba players have been selected for the Central Missouri Class 2 All-District Football Team by media members in the region. The honor team represents schools from throughout the central part of the state, with all-district teams selected for all classes.
No one saw the postseason run of the St. James High School boys basketball team coming last season—including head coach Ben Smith.
Now, no longer fighting the inexperience that dogged the Tigers much of last season, they have four starters and seven varsity lettermen back with a quest to return to the state quarterfinals.
