It’s been a long, long football season for the St. James Tigers. It may get a lot longer Friday night. Winless and desperate for points, the Tigers now must face the state’s top Class 3 team in a win-or-go-home scenario.
The St. James High School football team closed out the regular season with its scoring woes intact. The Tigers finished off the regular season with its third consecutive shutout defeat on Friday, falling to Pacific 35-0 in Four-Rivers Conference play.
The Steelville High School varsity volleyball team closed out its regular season last week by dropping two home matches to Grandview and Union. The first loss snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Lady Cardinals, while the second one left them with a 13-9-1 record headed into this week’s district tournament.
For the third consecutive year, the Steelville High School boys and girls cross country teams are the champions of the Gasconade Valley Conference, and a total of eight Cardinals earned all-conference honors at last Friday’s GVC meet in Viburnum.
The Steelville Middle School girls Red Team recently finished second at the Bland Eighth Grade Tournament. The Lady Cardinals fell to Cuba in the championship game.
Melayna Brown finished among the top seven runners in last week’s Gasconade Valley Conference cross country championships held at Viburnum, thereby earning all-GVC honors. Brown, a sophomore at Cuba High School, finished fourth overall in the conference varsity girls run. She ran the 5000 meters race in a time of 24:23.22.
