The Second Annual Battle in Bourbon Invitational Basketball Tournament, sponsored by FCNB Bank, wrapped up with the boys and girls final rounds played respectively last Friday and Saturday. Richland came away with the boys championship, while Belle won the girls title.
After playing the Shamrocks close through the first half at New Haven on January 7, the varsity Lady Wildcats couldn’t keep pace in the second half and dropped a 41-30 final. In the loss, however, a Cuba freshman turned in an outstanding performance.
The Cuba High School varsity boys basketball team got its first win of the season on December 28 in Bismarck. The Wildcats defeated the Indians 53-38.
The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team finished third at the Park Hills Central Christmas Tournament, which was played December 26-31. The Lady Cardinals won two of three games, defeating Arcadia Valley and Fredericktown, but losing to Ste. Genevieve in the semifinals.
The St. James High boys basketball team showed no signs of rust in a 64-48 win over the Dixon Bulldogs Monday, Jan. 4 in their first game since mid-December.
A hot 22-6 first quarter fueled the St. James Lady Tigers to a 66-37 victory over the New Haven Lady Shamrocks Monday, Dec. 4 to open Four Rivers Conference play at New Haven. St. James improved to 5-3 while New Haven dropped to 4-5.
