The varsity Lady Wildcats basketball game team just missed getting its first Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) victory of the season on January 26 when a big four-quarter rally came up just a bit short against Viburnum.
The Steelville High School boys basketball teams earned sweeps over Salem and Cuba at home last week. The two wins moved the varsity Cardinals’ record to 13-6 overall.
The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team moved to 3-0 in Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) play on January 25 with a 54-23 victory over Cuba. The Lady Cardinals are now 16-5 overall with four regular season games left on their schedule.
The second-seeded St. James Lady Tigers handed state-ranked and top-seeded Richland Lady Bears their second loss of the season 69-48 in the championship game of the Osage Girls’ Basketball Tournament Saturday, Jan. 23.
The St. James High School wrestling team placed eighth overall in the 12-school St. Clair Classic, held Saturday, Jan. 23.
Capital City won the team title with 194 points while host St. Clair was second with 191 and Palmyra third with 162. The St. James Tigers were eighth with 98.
Depending on the number of wrestlers competing, the weight classes were either in bracket or pool format.
With Tate Gruver scoring 17 points, the St. James Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team defeated Owensville 49-25 Thursday, Jan. 21 at St. James.
JV Meurer added 13 points and Aiden Boone eight for St. James.
